Work will begin on the irrigation component of the Lamar MS tree-planting project next Saturday at 10 AM. If you would be willing to help with the dirty work, RSVP me (so we know we've got snacks and drinks covered) and bring a pick axe and shovel. (If you bring a ditch witch, we may need to pin a medal on you). Earlier we had announced the starting time as 1 PM, and you are welcome to come then if it suits you - there'll still be work to do.
So far there are six of us fully committed in the manual labor pool, plus a few maybes. Assuming six, that's 50 ft of ditch per person, about the length of my front yard. Given that we're all out of shape and that the soil will be damp, I figure it's about 2 hours per person, but our landscape architect, Jody Jarrett, who has done a million of these projects, assures me that there's more pain than that. The way to reduce the pain is to get another 10 or 12 neighbors out, so that each person digs about 15-16 ft of trench. That's the way neighborhood projects are supposed to work. :)
This will be a kid-friendly event. If it rains out, the fall-back day is Saturday 10/2 at 10 am. PLEASE RSVP! Thanks all.
